Draft preparation
PPR vs Half-PPR vs Standard Fantasy Scoring
PPR formats change how much a reception is worth. That can change a close player comparison even when the underlying football performance is identical.
Know what the labels mean
Full PPR awards one point per reception; half-PPR awards half a point; standard or non-PPR usually awards no reception points. Other scoring settings still vary by league. Check yardage rates, passing touchdowns, turnovers, bonuses and any position-specific reception premium before using a ranking.
Calculate the same performance three ways
Using an illustrative league with one point per 10 receiving yards and six per receiving touchdown: six catches for 60 yards and no touchdowns produce six yardage points. Add six reception points in PPR, three in half-PPR or zero in non-PPR. The totals are 12, nine and six. This example excludes bonuses and other statistics.
Translate scoring into role value
Reception scoring gives a repeatable catching role another path to points. That can matter for receiving backs and short-area pass catchers. It does not make every high-catch player better than every big-play player: yards, touchdowns, availability and roster position still determine the full comparison.
Do not mix scoring systems in your draft board
Use one scoring configuration throughout your comparisons. If a player appears to be an exceptional value, first check that the ranking and ADP come from comparable formats. A two-quarterback league or tight-end premium can alter demand separately from the PPR setting.
WORKED EXAMPLE · ILLUSTRATIVE
A touchdown does not erase scoring differences
With the same six catches and 60 yards plus one receiving touchdown, the illustrative totals become 18 PPR, 15 half-PPR and 12 non-PPR. Every format gains six from the touchdown, while the reception gap remains.
