How to Find NFL DFS Value Picks

A value pick should free salary while still contributing useful expected production. Cheap players with uncertain roles can be expensive mistakes in roster terms.

Start with the exact slate

A player’s salary and eligibility depend on the platform and slate. Confirm the game set and contest format before comparing values. Do not reuse a salary from a previous week or another slate. Fantasy Overdrive can load supported DraftKings slates; FanDuel requires the matching salary CSV.

Use points per salary as an initial screen

Divide projected fantasy points by salary measured in thousands to make a simple value ratio. That ratio does not account for roster scarcity, correlation, ownership, projection uncertainty or the absolute points needed from each slot. Use it to narrow the pool, then examine the role.

Check why the player is inexpensive

A recent role change may create an opportunity before salary catches up. But the workload must be supported by evidence. Review touches, targets, current absences and qualifying props where available. A low salary plus a vague backup label is not enough to justify a projection increase.

Compare the complete lineups

The useful question is what the saved salary buys elsewhere. Compare two full legal lineups rather than judging the inexpensive player in isolation. In tournaments, the field’s likely choices and the path to a high score also matter, but ownership estimates remain uncertain.

WORKED EXAMPLE · ILLUSTRATIVE

A ratio is only a screen

A hypothetical $4,000 player projected for 12 points has a 3.0 ratio; a $6,000 player projected for 16 has a 2.67 ratio. The first is more efficient by this measure, but the second adds four expected points. Your other slots determine whether spending the extra $2,000 is worthwhile.

Your quick checklist

  • Verify the platform and salary file.
  • Check the workload behind the estimate.
  • Compare full lineups.
  • Review injury status before lock.
