DFS Exposure Limits and Multi-Lineup Planning
Exposure describes how often a player appears across your generated lineups. A cap controls concentration; it does not make the remaining lineups independent or guarantee diversification.
Translate the percentage into a count
Start with the number of lineups you intend to build. A 40% maximum in a 20-lineup set allows at most eight appearances. With small portfolios, percentages map to whole lineups, so review the realized counts rather than expecting every fraction to be representable.
Check whether your rules can coexist
A player locked into every lineup requires 100% exposure. That conflicts with a lower maximum cap. Stacks, exclusions and salary constraints can create similar conflicts across groups of players. If a build produces too few results, inspect the constraint explanation before raising every limit.
Look beyond individual player caps
Several lineups can avoid repeating one player while still relying on the same quarterback, team or game script. Review stacks and team combinations as well as player percentages. Distinct lineups are not necessarily meaningfully different paths to success.
Review what was actually generated
Requested lineups and completed lineups are different counts. Recalculate exposure against the completed portfolio, inspect salary and roster legality, and use the matching contest template for exports. Fantasy Overdrive’s multiple-lineup builds and exposure controls require Pro. Generation does not submit entries.
WORKED EXAMPLE · ILLUSTRATIVE
A simple feasibility check
If you request 20 lineups with one quarterback slot each, you need 20 total quarterback appearances. Four quarterbacks capped at four appearances each can cover only 16 of those slots. No optimizer can satisfy all those settings simultaneously. Add viable players, change the caps or request fewer lineups.
Your quick checklist
- Convert caps into actual lineup counts.
- Resolve conflicts with locks and stacks.
- Review concentration by game as well as player.
- Check completed lineups before exporting.
